Eastlake Designer and IIDA Board Member Casey Bowmer visited Stockholm for one of the biggest design events of the year.

Earlier in the year, I was given the opportunity to attend the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, which is part of the city's Design Week. National Office Furniture was kind enough to invite me. Over five days, we visited museums, explored the city, ate incredible food and attended the fair, where manufacturers showcased the newest and best in Scandinavian and European design.

An overarching them I spotted throughout a lot of products was individuality and a sense of artful craft. It was refreshing to see unexpected color combinations, furniture with personality and unique details, and a big focus of more flexibility for the user so they can make their workplace work for them.

In addition to attending the fair, we explored a museum that had a range of Swedish artifacts, from photographs to a famous ship that sunk on its maiden voyage.

Design is a part of the Swedish lifestyle and it seemed like around every corner there was inspiration to be found. It was truly an eye-opening trip, and I can’t wait to return to Scandinavia.
